Nothing like this ever had hap- pened to him before. He had seen Crows at a distance but never in a gang like this. Three of the bold- est dashed at him and one pulled a feather from his coat. He snap- ped his bill but the sound of it was lost in harsh voices of thc Crows. He lluffed out his feathers so that he looked to be nearly twice as big as he really was. He look- ed as fierce as he know how and continued to snap hia bill angrily. pretending that he wasn't afraid But he was afraid. Nothing like this had happened before. He has a scared young Owl, very scarcd. and those Crown knew it. His fa- ther. Hooty. in hia place would have been very much annoyed and very angry. but he wouldnt have been afraid.
