Hon. Mr. Ferguson referred to the death of his life-long friend Hon. Senator Arsenault. His removal, he said, was a heavy loss to Prince Edward Island.

Loxpox, March, 9.—Tbe British Naval estimates have been issued. They in- crease the expenditure by £1,440,000, increase the personel of the navy by 6,340 men and provide for the building of three new battleships, four armoured cruisers and four sloops of war.

McKenzie, Presbyterian Minister of East St. Peter’s Congregation, recently announced from the pulpit, that it was his intention shortly to resign, in orderto give the people achance to re- elect him as their Pastor, or in the erent of that failing, eeome one else. show that such acourse on his part was altogether uncalled for; Commissioners were appointed to call upon every family for their opinion and revewal of subscrip~ tion. At a meeting of the session and managers of the Congregation held at Bead of the Bay last Wednesday afternoon they reported “‘having put the liston a sound financial basis and found every individual without exception, not only satisfied with and apprceiative of Mr. McKeazie’s labours, and willing to support him, but eathusiastic in their desire that he might not carry out his intention. Whereupon the meeting passed a resolution in substance as follows.”

Whereas our pastor bas generously offer ed te demit his charge, so as to afford the congregation every freedom in their choice of one, ard our inquiry has elicited the following facts, that thie congragation was never iu a better condition fisancially and otherwise than at the present, that after paying debt to the amount of over seven thousand dollars for church building, we are now on the poist of being free, that afier laboring in this congregation con- tinuously for twelve years, we don’t Know any one whose love and regard for him have not grown accordingly, and while we commend him for his independent spirit, along with his generous aod manly action, resolved that we do unanimously join in asking Mr. MacKenzie to contione in his ministry amongst us, at the same time that we hold ourselves bound to stand by him in every expression of loyalty and esteem.”

In answer to this resolution Mr. Mac- Kenzie stated that he was quite satisfied with the sentiment of the meeting and sigaified his decision to keep on in the good work. It was also resolved that the resolution be engrossed in the miautes and a copy sent to the public press
