UPEI Christian Fellowship presents... Larry Norman, Live atthe Barn

On September 24th, a music legend is coming to the UPEI Barn. “Time Magazine” called him the most influential artist in his field and “Billboard Maga- zine” said he was "the most important songwriter since Paul Simon." In his earlier career, his back called "The People" performed with such artists as Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and The Doors. Larry Norman has toured in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, and now he will be coming to PEI.

The wet/dry concert will also feature two local bands, Ear Candy and Ninth Hour and will begin at 9:00pm. Seating is first come first serve, and the concert is smoke-free. If you bring this article to the concert, you will be eligible

to win a number of great prizes. The following infor- mation is a short biography of Larry Norman.

Early in the sixties Larry was openly anti-drug and made no secret of his faith in Christ. He was gos- pel music's first Rock and Roller, and was thought by many to be "Too Rock and Roll for Christian's, and to Christian for Rock and Roll."

efit albums for the poor in other countries and is now touring with Compassion Canada to help sponsor needy children of the world.

Larry has had over 250 of his songs recorded by other artists, some of which are on the newly re- leased album, titled One Way. This album isa tribute to Larry and his work by such artists as D.C. Talk, Geoff Moore and the Dis- tance, and Rebecca St. James.

I did notthink anything could top the surprise I felt that the Panther Prints had country albums to review. Listening to this CD topped it. Instead of the fast-paced, "mainstream" country music that we are seeing more and more often today, this album was a blast from the past. It was pleasant, easy to listen to, and extremely similar to the country music that you sometimes hear on “Golden Oldies” stations. From the upbeat "I Hung It Up" to the humorous “Hong Kong Blues,” this album kept to a formula of pleasant, old-time country. It is definitely worth checking out for country fans, but people who never listened to country before Shania Twain should probably give it a miss.

Wendy Lands Angels and Ordinary Men

To look at this CD, you would get the impression that it was copying Alanis Morissette. Actually, some of the songs do show an influence from that direction, particularly "Little Sins" and “Like Oxygen.” But that is a shame, because Lands can definitely stand on her own when it comes to musical talent. This album has quite a few good songs, perhaps the best of which isthe haunting love song "Sanctuary". The title track and "One Love" are also very good. Not all the songs are so good, but overall, I still liked this album.
