Mr. '1'. R. Hall. author of Lan- guage Journeys. spoke on literature in grades seven and eight. In his remarks Mr. Hall stated that lan- guage is a lradual Krowth and in- terest must be created by the teacher's efforts and aids. He stressed the teaching of the nice- ties of human relations in the school since this was the beginning centre of the language series. He emphasized the principle of review- ing the work so as to build soundly. and also urged the full use of re- ference books and supplementary reading.

A group of swimmers from Pownal passed Red Cross Swim- ming and Water Safety tests at Brighton Beach in Charlottetown early in August. Mrs. Roy Harman is chairman of the Pownal Swim ming and Water Safety Committee and made all arrangements for this course. which was instructed by Miss Nancy Hyndman.

The awards were given at a pic- nic held on the day following the tests. The members of the classes presented a lovely gift to their Instructor.
