Seamen Injured In Accident On 5 ’side Road

Four Halifax seamen were in hospital here last night and a. fifth faced a. police court charge of causing bodily harm as a result of a motoring accident near Fred- ericton, P. E. 1., early yesterday morning.

Lawrence Oeiborne. Lloyd Clark. William Gaudet and Wilfred Wam- beck, deck hands on the oil tanker, S. S. Terralitc, were injured when an automobile driven by Robert I-Iogg, another member of the Ter- rallte crew. overtumed and was badly smashed on the Fredericton highway.

The five seamen had gone out driving while the oil ship was in port hcrc discharging 3.000 barrels of oil. Lawrence Osborne. believed to have suffered a. fractured skull besides shock and bruises, was most seriously injured, The other three suffered only bruises and minor injuries, They were resting comfortably in hospital last night. Osborne escaped with slight scratches.

Inquiries as to the extent and quality of Irish moss in the Island have been received in Bumme;side by a prominent business man, and preparations are at present going ahead to discover the commercial value of the Islnr.d's growth of mus, which, according to one authority “is almost unlimited, and of very good quality, and easily obtained." Demand for the moss is said to be considerable all over the world. Specimens have been collected for the parties making the inquiries rc- gording this product, and it is hoped that an outlet will be found for tnis important commercial product Com- mon almost everywhere along tha coast of the Island’, with the excep- tion of the southeast coast. and some parts of the coast near Cm‘:- lottetown.
