Now the wharf bas been in a dilapidated eondition for the best part of the period he refers to and not in a tit state to do any shipping at. But while the wharf was in repair we used frequantly to have vessels come and do considerable shipping there. The balk of the spipping of this iocality, previous to the constructioa of the railway was dona at Dingwells wharf. The late J. B.Ocx Esq, a distinguished ship- builder aud owner, loadea his vessels with cordwood as wellas produce for a number cf years st the above named wharf. Bees, we had Capt. Maskell, of Bsc uss pt. Baker of NewfoundJand, d.u an extensive trade for years. There were also many others. It was no uncom. mon thing to see two and three vessels at one time in the fall of the year loading at the above named wharf, All the shipping was done notwithstanding the want of light«housee. Now St. Peters Harbour is as good as it was at that time, and besides we have two magnificent lights placed there and supported by the Dominion Government, that would enable veseels to come in day or night yet we have no wharf accomodations. Still turther he says the Harbour isa poor sand bar with an old tumbled-down breakwater which the Dominion authorities have refused to repair. Now, Sir[ have been ccedibly informed on this subject by a party that bas requested the above named authorities to have the breakwater alluded to repaired and he bas received a promise that the necessary repairs will be done. Now sirI wieh to draw your uttention to a meeting heldin Morell Hall in March 1897 areport of which appeared in the Patriot newspaper, and at which one of our represealatives @ prominent member of the present government happened to be present, and that amongs; all the speakers at the above named meeting I believe “Old Liberal” was the most conspicuous in showing the great requirements and requesting the govern-. mest to have a wharf built in the place,

Amelia Wofford tells of ‘‘The Court Jesters of England’* in St. Nicholas. ‘The following is related of King Henry 1ll’s jester :

Sommers, like Scogan, liked a prac- tical joke. and one that he played on Cardinal Wolsey is thus quaintly told by Armin:

“Of a time appointed the king dined at Windsor, in the chappel yard at Car- dinall Wolsey’s at tae same time when he wes building that admirable work of his tombe, at whose gate stood a number of poore people, to be served with alms when dinner was done with- in, and as Will passed by they saluted him, taking him fox a worthy person- age, Which pleased him. In he comes, and finding the king at dinner and the cardinall by attending, to disgrace him that he never loved, Harry, sayes hee, lend me £10. What to doe? saies the king.
