Prof. Selwyn, of the Geological Survey, reports the discovery of rich coal beds in the Bow River District, N. W. Territories.

The Kingston College difficulty has been settled by the faculty agreeing that no more female students will be admitted to the in- stitution.

The various insurance companies doing business at Quebec have combined to raise the new tariff of office insurance premiums by 50 per cent. in that city.

A despatch has been received from the Gntario Government in re the boundary question, in reply to one sent by. the Dominion, dated Sept, 2nd.

The Canadian Pacific Railway has track laid 585 miles west of Winnipeg, and is lay ing rails at the rate of two and one-half miles a day, although it is very cold.

The Winnipeg Times comments upon the alleged attack of the Grand Trunk in tle English money market upon the Syndicate and says that the contest is desperate.

A Troy (N. Y.) despatch says that four carloads of fine sheep, a present from the Marquis of Lorne to Queen Victoria, passed through that city recently, en route from Canada to Liverpool.

Professor Selwyn, of the Geological Sur vey, makes an announcement of the greatest importance. He reports that enormous di posits of true coal have been discovered in the Bow river country, extending over many thousands of acres.

The Government has purchased a half block on Wellington street, Ottawa, facing the present grounds, on which it is intend- ed to erect a building to be occupied by the Department of Interior. It is understocd
