Coroner's Jury Attaches No 'BIame To Driver In Fatality

Evidence indicated that the no Mrs. Gillls died after receiving a fractured skull, multiple fractures of the left leg and lacerations of the brain when struck by a car driven by Mr. Macltae. The late Mrs. Gillls was pronounced dead by Dr. MacDonald when he ar- rived on the scene a short time later.

EN ROUTE FROM PICTOU

The evidence further showed that Mr. MscRae and his party. who are all members of the crew of the ferryboat Prince Nova. were returning from Plclou. N.S-, when the acciant occurred. All the passenger. in the car testi- fied that Mr. Macllso had driven cautiously all the way from Nova scotia due to the fact that the roads were icy in spots. They also stated that when the driver saw that an accident might happen, that he tried greatly to avoid it, that the car was in good running condition and that none of the passengers or the driver had been drinking.

Previous to the accident. Mrs. Gillls had started to cross the paved highway. about a quarter of a mile from her house. to pick up the mall in the box on the side of the road furtherest from her home and on the side which the Mac- Rae car was proceeding towards Wood Islands. Mr. MacRae said that when he noticed her she had crossed about two-thirds of the road surface and was on his rightful side of the road. As the driver started to veer the auto to the left side of the road to avoid the accident. the Iata Mrs. Gillls also started to hurry to the left side of the highway.

St. Paul's Parish Guild Annual

The annual meeting of St. Paul's Parish Guild was held on Wednes- day evening. December 12th., in the Parish Hall with the President. Mrs. M.W- Weeks in the chair.

The meeillli was opened with Ute "Gill!!! of the Lord's Prayer In unison and was well atttended. The minutes of the last meeting and those of the last annual meeting were read by the Secretary, Mrs. Jack Brown. The treasurer. Miss Mabel Worth. gave a very fine financial report following which sums of money were voted towards various necessities for the parish property.

Miss Helen Wakeford. treasurer for the cent-a-meal fund, gave her report and as a result the meet- ing voted 85000) be forwarded to Mr. A.J. Haslam. St. Paul's Church treasurer.

Following the president's report. Mrs. H.R. Carruthers spoke on be half of herself and Mrs. E.V- Bell who had made innumerable pur- chases during the past few months including 50 new chairs for which the sum of 8250.00 was voted. Mrs. Bell was thanked for her not in- considerable work in purchases for the kitchen. etc.

Mrs. G.D. DeBlois reported for the Sanctuary Guild as did Mrs. .I.T. Rodd regarding the Choir, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. and Social Service.

Mrs. N.H. Delilois told the meet- ing of her work In connection with the Sunset Lodge and Mrs. L-E. MacLeod presented the financial statement for the Chancel Guild.

Rev. Csnon J.T. Ibbott spoke briefly prior to his having to leave the meeting to attend an A.Y.P.A. gathering.

The Parish Guild agreed unan- lmously that a letter should be forwarded to Mr. James Ibbott com mending him for having chosen to enter the ministry of tha Angli- can Communion. A glft of S2.'o.00 was to be enclosed.
