ways: A strange and startling accident occurred st Lynn, Maas, not long since. As usual, wires carried the eiectric force from powerful dynamos to the electric lighting etatlon. The station took fire and tie wires were burned off, The current, while stil] being generated, was thaa cut offfrom a vert. The mechanical energy Which bad been previously converted intoe'ectricity was thus thrown back upon itself. Instantly the large fly ‘whee! of the 700 horse power steam engine began to re- volve with lightning speed, and before the machinery could stepped the centrifugal force had burst it into fragments, which flew in all directions. The energy which supplied ihe electric light had been suddenly by the accident transformed into centrifugal power, whieh burst the wheel.

In chis game the West seemed more than a match for their opponents \fter a sertes of brilliant plays, Dr. John- son seoured the bal! out a lively scrimmage near the northern goal, and by a well-dir- eeted shot scored the first goal of the even- ing for the West, amid gre»t applause

in the second game both teams were well wermed up to their work, and both cut a lively pace. For atime the East had the advantage, and it looked as if they might score a gual at any moment. The ball was, however, gradually worked up by the West wud again sent through the goal by Dr. Johnson.

Both teams worked hard during the third game, but the West had clearly the

wlvantage this time. By brilliant team work the ball was passed to Johnson, who quickly scored his third goal for the West.

The fourth game was marked by fine play on both sides. The ball was kept dangerously near the West goal for some time, until Rundle quickly secured the bal! and by asplendid dash passed three or four opponents and acored the fourth and last goal ia grand style. Score : West 4; East, 0.

On the whole, the West played a more scientific game and passed better than their opponents. They played more for team work, rather than individual honor. Twe halves of forty five minutes each, with ten minutes’ rest, were piayed. The spectators were delighted with the game, and liberally applauded the Beveral fine plays mace Mr. Jas. Sullivan, and Mr. Jos. Smith, (for- inerly of the New Glasgow A. A. C.) were the umpires, The proceeds amounted tu

| Unanimously Nominated.

Tue Convention of the Liberal-Conser- vatives of King’s County, held in George- town on Tuesday, the 10th inst., notwith standing the inclement weather, was at- tended by a large number of delegates from the severs! polling di-tricts,

Hon. D. Gordon, President of the King’s County Liberal-Conservative Assvuciation, occupied the chair.

Among those present were Hon. Senator Prowse, Hon. James Clow, Hon. Archd. .J. Macdonald, Wm. A Poole, Eq..M L.C, Angus McLeo?d, Esq... M. P P., J. C. Unverhay, E-q, M. P. P., and Cyrus Shaw, Esq, M. P P

being requested to ucminate a candidate to occupy the seat lately held by the late Hugh L. Macdonald, —

lt was proposed by Ronald J McKenzie, Esq , Dundas, and seconded by Mr. Edward Sharkey, of Corraville, Lot 63, and carried Macdonald, isq., of Cardigan Bridge, be the candidare of the L:beral Conservative Party at the ensuing election tor the Third Electoral District of King’s Qounty

James E. Macdona d, Esq., in accepting the nomination, said he felt assured that all present regretted the sad circumstances that had caused a vacancy in the represen- tation of the Cardigan District. The late representative, the Hon. Hugh L. Macden- ald, was a gentleman ‘who had seeured the affection and esteem of all; and his name would long be remembered by the people of the Cardigan District as one of the big- gest hearted men who has ever lived among them. In accepting the unsnimous noni- nation that had been so kindly given him to-day, his most earnest wish was that he would be able as faithfully to represeut them aa their late representative bad done.

Hon. D. Gordon, in calling the County Convention to order, said that the present vecasion was one of unusual importance in the history of our country. He pvinted vut the importance of the issues that are now before the electors of Canada in general and this Island in particular, and said he hoped that the same unanimity that bad hitherto characterized the proceed- ings of the Liberal-Conservative Party in King’s County would be shown on the pre- sent occasion. Mr. Geo. . Owen said that as several gentlemen had been spoken of as candidates at the ensuing Domiaion flection, it probably weuld.be conducive to the expediting of the business hefore the Convention if those gentle- men who had been spokeh of as candi tates, woull express their views and policy before the delegates. + Consequently A. ©. Macdonald, E, B. Muttart, and John MoLean, Esquires, made brief addresses, Dre Mauttart in the course of his remarks intimated that it was not his intention 10 contest the present election. On motion of Hon. James Clow, seconded by Mr. Edward Sharkey and W A. Poole, Esq., A. C. Macdonald, Esq,, was nominated as 4 candidate to contest the present Dominion Election for King s County. It was moved by Michael McCormack, Esq., of Souris, and seconded by Ronald J. McKenasie, Esq., «f Dundas, thit John Me Lean, Esq., of Souris, be a candidate for Kings County at the ensuing Dominion

Election. Both nominations were canied unapimously. Messrs. Macdonald and Mclean in strong

and eloquent speeches thanked the delegates for the unanimous nominations they had received, and urged on those present the necessity of hearty and untiring effort by all members of the party at the forthcoming contest.

On motion of A. C. Macdonald, seconded by John A. Cameron, the following was ad »pted ;

Whereas, E. B. Muttart, Esq., has been, for the past twelve years, one of the standard bearers of the Liberal-Conservative party in King’s County; and has, during that time, aiways fought its battles with unswerving devotion and ability—

Therefore Resolved, That while we regret that he does not see fit to allow himself to be put in nomination on the pres nt occasion, this Convention desires to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Muttart for his past ser vices.

After the candidates hed suitably acknow ‘edyed the hearty nomination they bad re- ceived, stirring speeches were made by Hon. Senator I’rowse, John Nichols, Esq., Cyrus Shaw, Esq, Mr. John Weatherbie aud others The Convention having given three hearty cheers for Her Majesty the Queen, Sir John A. Macdonald, the candidates for King’s County, and Dr. Muttart for his past services, quis tly dispersed.

A Contradiction.

Sir,—Mr. W. 8. Stewart, counselon a Scott Act case, stated in the City Court yesterday that I had told him that alcohol is not kept in stock in my Drug Store. Mr. Stewar® must have made a mistake, for while I do not remember ever having said anything whatever upon the subject to him, I positively never made such a state- ment. A druggist cannot conduct hs business without alcohol, and I alwa's keep at least a cask of it in stock. I make this explanation because Mr Stewart's n- accuracy has been the subject of muh comment and is unintentionally calculated to injure my, business by sending customers needing alevkol elsewhere, and, further, because | might well be accused of false- hood by those who know the contrary state of »ffvirs to exist.
