Opening the lines of communication

istorically, male and female roles ap- peared to be carved in stone, but as we approach the end of the 20th century we ‘te confronting a great deal of confusion. What do women expect from men? What do men oo from women? In a recent Psychology ‘Oday article, Harry Stein suggested that, men and women are probably destined to remain unknown to one another...but if we oe look for sameness, why not focus on hat we really have in common: that we're - 'mperfect, vulnerable, confused...and aught up in how [others expect us] to feel tw and think and behave.’’ ©, as human beings, male or female, ever and What We really are, we must first address Confusion over others’ expectations of us.

This is the opportunity for you to begin to

identify some of the confusion surrounding

contemporary male/female relationships.

_ We want to know! If you could ask a member of the opposite sex any question you have regarding their expectations of you, what would you ask? Don’t just think about this, write your questions down and drop them in one of our collection boxes (details below).

We will not promise any answers to your questions. Frankly, because the answers are as individual as each of you who would provide a question. However, this exercise is not without purpose or benefit to you. Our goals in provid- ing you with this opportunity are three-fold.

1) By collecting and publishing your questions in complete confidence, we hope to provide you and many others

with the comfort of knowing that your confusions regarding the expectations of the other sex are shared by others.

2) By addressing our first objective we hope to provide you with the knowledge that it is safe to ask your mate, or friend of the other sex all of these questions which you have previously struggled with.

3) Questions obtained might provide the basis for communication of ideas in

Psychology 432A, Men’s Experience.
