They were recominended hy Cam McLean Manager of the Co-. Op Super Market of this Fit). the J.H. Stafford Stable. uho oper- ates one of the largest and finest race stables of thoroughhreds in Canada. Mr. McLean who is an ardent race fan and splendid sup- porter of the sport here. paid the ltahle a visit last year and there were about 150 horses there. 30 of them racing and they also have brood mares and colts.

At present the racing stable is at the old Woodbine track iilicre the boys will act as grooms and stay with their charges. in about three weeks they expect to move to the low Woodbine track which cost oeveral millions and will be one of the finest in America. Doug R. Neal, manager of the Iaint John Exhibition Association and Saint John Raceway. writes in under date of April 12 that they have been doing extensive work to the track. grading the new surface which was put on last fall. Owing to the lateness of the season it will be early in June before it is perfected and he hopes that it will be second: footer and be one of the finest oval: in the Maritlmeo.

Racing will probably get under way about the second of June and later on we will be in a position to give the exact date. About 75 horses are being exercised and brushed daily and within two weeks they expect to increase that number to 100. Six new stables are under construction. four of them practically completed and the oth- or two will be ready by the time racing starts. With this new stab- lfng there should be no congestion and all horses racing at Saint John will have excellent accom- modation.

The management donated the use of the building for the evening to the fireman as a gesture of apprec- iation for the splendid service given to the Arena at the various actlviies during the year.
