Music Society Notes

Dear Students,

On November 17th, 1989, the 2nd Annual Music Society Play- a-thon was held with tremendous success. The Society managed to raise $850.00 for its scholarship fund. The Play-a-thon started 1:00 pm Friday afternoon and preceeded until 1:00 pm Saturday afternoon, giving 24 hours of con- tinuous music put on by the stu- dents of the Music Dept. /Society.

November 17th also is another significant day for the Music So- ciety. This day marks the day in which we received our new Mu- sic Society t-shirts. The design on the t-shirt itself was designed by a 9-year-old, Joshua Chow- dorow. Josh’s mother is a full- time Music student here at UPEI. The Kraft-Dinner Kids

the Music Society to Joshua. We plan, as a society, to purchase jackets and incorporate the new crest on the jacket itself. Again, thanks, Joshua, on a job well done.

Also at this time I would like to thank the following: Mr. Donut and Tim Horton’s on Uni- versioty Ave. for,donating boxes of muffins and doughnuts for the Play-a-thon. Also, Bun King in sherwood donated food. Mrs. Kenny’s Bake Shop donated a large cake for the official open- ing ceremonies which were held at 1:30 pm on Friday, Nov 17. Both CFCY and CHTN dropped by for the event and provided publicity. Pats Rose and Gray Room, Charlottetown, donated a $20.00 gift certificate as a prize. Another prize was donated by

Mr. Jack Sorenson from Tryon who made a beautiful Music Note Clock. Mr. Sorenson is the owner of Really-O-Handicrafts in Tryon, PEI. I also would like to thank the President of UPEI, President Elliot, for coming to the opening ceremonies and officially open- ning the event by conducting the Choral Lab through the group’s first piece. The UPEI Music Society os going to host their first pub on Thursday, March 1. A long line of activites and various entertain- ment have been planned. Down- stairs in the Panther Lounge, Charlottetown’s own “StarMak- ers” will be rocking. Have you ever dreamed of singing, well now you can with “StarMakers”.
