HEREAS the General Assembly of this Island stands prorogued until Tuesday, the 'l‘wenty-lith day of June next.

I have thought lit, by and with the advice of Her Majesty's

Executive Council, further to prorogue the said General Assembly,

and the same is hereby prorogued until THURSDAY, the First

day of AUGUST next, of which all persons concerned are re- quired to take notice and govern themselves accordingly.

Five Pounds Reward.

THE Government of this Island will pay a. Reward of Five Pounds to any person for the apprehension of the under- mentioned Deserter from Her Majesty’s 4th Regiment or King’s Own Royals.

DESCRIPTION OF DESERTER: Private—Thomas Hazlegrove, a native of England, height 5 feet 8 inches, complexion dark brown.

PICKPOCKEI‘S AT THE PARIS EXHIBITION.

The Parisianjournals cemplain of the multitude of “ pick- pockets.” and 1 refer to the subject mainly because these “ pickpockets ” are nearly always said to be English. The Parisian complains rather dolelully that his capital is given up to the foreigner. The foreigner complains that he finds the Parisian rather extortionate, and the Parisian complains that the foreigner comes to him too frequently in the guise of an English pickpocket—to steal his watch, his coat, his umbrella. and all that is his. The English Word “ pick- pocket” has been naturalised in France as long ago were “ redingote” and “bouledOgue.” And as the riding-coat and the bulldog denoted peculiarly English institutions. so the pickpocket is supposed to be English in reality, as well as in name. The journals here are full of the WOnderful feats of these pickpockets: and in the clubs or any other society where familiarities are allowed an Englishman gets a little bantering on their account. Perfidious Albionz! What can be expected from perfidious Albion but that she should be the morher of pickpockets?
