A very enjoyable evening was spent in st. Andrew's Parish Hall. bit. Stewart. where a large gather- ing of friends assembled to bid farewell to Miss Agnes McQulllsn who is giving up the world to de- vote her life to the service of God.

After a few appropriate words spoken by Father Msccormsc. an address was read by Miss Carlene Mcllachern and the presentation was made by Miss Aletha Muilln. Miss McQuillan thanked her many friends present.

The remainder of the evening was pleasantly spent in dancing and sing-song. Music being furnished by Messrs. Daniel and John C. Mac- Donald.

A very delicious lunch was served by the ladies of the C. W. L. under whose patronage the entertainment took place.

TORONTO, (CP) -A home econ. omlst says the time has passed when home economics means cook- ing snd sewing.

Mildred Horton, executive sec- retary of the American Home Eco- nomics Association, said Wednes- day that it encompasses the en- tire field of nutrition and family living on a national and interna- tional scsle. She told the annual convention of the Canadian Home Economics Association:

"it calls for young people with qualities, the spiitudes and the capacity for human understanding who will fill the jobs with com- petence and imagination.

"There is a crying graduates in the doctorate level, Positions at the administrative level - at least here and in the United States - remain vacant for great lengths of time. Often they are filled by personnel outside of the home economics field."

She said the need is urgent for personnel in the field of research.

magnificent Spruce, fir, and cedar grew nearby. In 1930. this tlmbir was so far from market that it offered cheap material for building an unusual road to cross the bog. With timber prices what they are today, such s road would cost too much to build even on Graham Island.

But it years ago several sew mills were operating there to meet the limited demand of the sur- rounding dlstrict. As a road was needed between the two lawns. the government put the mills to work sawing logs for it. The lay of the land permitted the road to he built in a straight line. At every half mile sidings were laid so that vehicles could pull out of line and let the other fellow pass.

Moving sidewalks in the form of conveyor belts are about to give sore footed folk a lift in Jersey, N. J.

The belts will go into action as pedestrians carriers this summer.

New Jersey citizens who use the Erie Railroad and then the tubes under the Hudson River to get to their Jobs in New York City will be the first to ride the moving sidewalks.

The belt is capable of carrying approximately ll,000 tired com- muters sn hour. The greater part of the belt covers a ten per cent grade and is supposed to ease pedutrian traffic Jams as well as weary muscles. It is planned to operate the belt at a speed of 120 feet a minute.

Workers in a tire and rubber firm in Akron. Ohio. make the 400 foot continuous belt. It is ht of an inch thick and weighs 11,000 pounds. Workers in Aurora, Ill- inois, turned out the 30 tons of equipment on which the belt rides.

Willis, who has spent 64 years of his life on the seas, plans a solo trip. He will embark at Lima, Peru, for Samoa and hopes to make the voyage in about four months. He believes the west bound Humbold current will carry his raft to its destination.
