VICTORIA NOTES.

Owing to the scarcity of enow busivess in this usually lively village is now al- most at a standstill. The only man who appears to be makiog any money is our efficient and obliging blacksmith, Mr. George Holmes, and he is kept hustling every day. The sound of bis anvil can be distinctly heard from early morn tii! late at night. George is an adept st heree- shoeing, and peoyle come from miles around to get their work done by him. He makes aspecialty of shoeing mail horser. He is also wry skilful as a veterinary surgeon, and doe: a lot ia this line. Receaotiv he performed quite a diffi- cult operation on Mr. N. R. Wright’s borse, which was very euccessful and would do credit to a college graduate.

Mr. Charles Rogers has comp'eted his contract of building Government ice-boate for the Capes etervice. Needless to say the work bas been done in @ first class man.erthrougheut. BOUGHTON ISLAND NOTES.

Nathan Allen, Joseph H. Allen and Malcolm Allen succeeded in clabbing or killiog a number of seals last Friday, the 26th instaat, which came into the ( ove on drifted ice, probably from the North. They are a fine lot, and each of them will probably vield from five to six gallons of oil, besides beautiful fur. This is the first time in the history of thie litle Isle that seals have been killed or clubbed on floating ice. It speaks well of the daring and intrepidity of theee men in their perilous adventure on floating ice. Ed. Allen and James Allen went last
