But while prices were decllnlng. Industrial pey cheques were climb- ing, increasing the purchaalng power of the labor force. Average weekly pay cheques in major lu- dustrles rose to an all-tlme high of 35815 on Nov. 1 from 058.11 on Oct. 1 and 355.65 on Nov. 1, 1952.

The November consumer price lndex figure of 115.3 was nine- tenths of a point. below the 1963 high of 118.1 reached In Septem- ber, but 1.4 points higher than the 1953 low of 114.4 in April. It brought llvlhg caste back to where they were a year ago. down 2.4 points from the December, 1051, peak of 1182.

As in October. living costs de- clines in November were sparked mainly by lower food prices, though there also were a few scattered decreases In the clothlng line.

Prices dropped for eggs, beef. pork, potatoes. lettuce. grapefruit rind some canned vegetables. These outweighed rlses for most fresh vegetables, lamb. bread. butter, cheese, shortening and coffee.

The food sub-group dropped by 1.3 points to 112.1-lowest since last May's 111.4. The rent. sub- lndex, however, rose to a new high of 1252 from 125.

The clothing sub-group, un- changed in the previous two months sllpped by one-tenth of a point to 1100.2 from 1100.3, reflecting lower prices scattered throulh m!n'I. women's and children's apparel and footwear. This was well below the all-tlme high of 116.2 reached In November, 1951.
