Surprtnc Nores.—Barque ‘‘Bessie Parker” is reported ashore near Shediac. It was feared, as the tide was high when she went ashore, that she had susta:aed some damage, but advices have been received stating that the barque came off without sustaining any serious injury.

New Brunswick Noves.—The haying season has begun among the farmers. The crop will be much lighter than last year. Diptheria, which has lately proved such a scourge in Amherst, is somewhat dying out although a few new cases of a serious charac- ter are reported.

Tue Redemptorist Fathers will commence a two weeks’ mission in Summerside in St. Paul’s R. C. Church, on Sunday next. They have visited and held services at a large number of places on the Island, Their labors have heen crowned with great success, there being no fewer than four hundred and eighteen confirmed at Souris a few days ago.

Tue fourth annual regatta of the Canadian Association of Amateur Oarsmen took place on the Ottawa River, at Ottawa on the 25th. All the races were well contested. Lang, of Montreal, won the single scull amateur championship, defeating Buckley of Portland and others. The senior four-oared shell race was won by a crew from the Toronto club.

THe Dank River Cheese Factory which is managed by Fenton T. Newberry, Esq., of this city, is doing a good busivess. During the first .nonth of twenty-six working days, it took ninety-two and one-half tons of milk from the farmers of the district. This is probably the largest receipts of any factory in the Province, and reflects credit on the farm- ers of Bedeque for the support they are giving the new industry.

A GRANDDAUGHTER of Robert Burns is, it is stated, at present in receipt of relief from the Londoa Scottish Corporation, Her name is Mrs. Pyrke. She is the wife of a workingman who has, through no fault of his own, fallen into poverty, and the daughter of the poets eldest son Robert, who for some time was employed in Somerset House.

An alarm of fire was given, and he, along with others, was pulling on the rope to convey the fire engine to the scene of the fire, when he fell, and the | wheels of the steamer passed over his breast, | killing him almost instantly.
