Dundee Advertiser of the debate in the Imperial Commons on the agricultural vote and the question of agricultural in- struction.

; Sir John Leng mide a very interesting contribution to the debate, and referred to the large quantities of poultry, butter, eggs and cheese, which were imported and which might be produced at home. He observed that many farmers of the pre- rent day did not show the thrift and intel They were aping too much the manners and style of the country gentlemen, going to the hunt themselves and their daughters playing the piano.

Let their wives and daughters, said Sir Jobn,amid cheers, devote themselves to the kitchen and dairy. On the question of Canadian cattle, Sir John spoke with great spirit and animation. In the face of the House he declared that the great Dom- inion of Canada had not received justice from the agricultural department of late or present government. He never had be- lieved, and did not believe, that there was any solid ground for the exelusion of Can- adian store cattle from this country. Mr. Walter Long, referring to the question of Canadian cattle, simply gave the stereo typed reply of the department, and justi- fied theirexclusion onthe ground of secur- ing the safety of their flocks and herds.

The reference of Sir J. Leng to the al- tered habits of farmers and their families evidently excited a good deal of sympathy inthe House. After the speech of the member for Dandee, a Yorkshire member handed to Sir John the following rhyme and its new version :
