UPEI will have the plea- sure of being host to the Brunswick String Quartet. The Quartet has toured At- lantic Canada, the West, and Ontario, as well as Great Britian. The Quartet con- sists of a first and a sec- ond: violinist, a violist, and a cellist. Joseph Pach is the founder of and first violin- ist for the Quartet. Paul Campbell, a New Brunswick native, plays second violin. James Pataki, born in Hun- gary and raised in Toronto, plays viola. Paul Pulford is the cellist fork the Quartet.

The Quartet will be in residence at UPEI for one week. This will be an excel- lent experience for the stu- dents who will have a chance to work with the Quartet. There is no formal string pro- gram at UPEI, therefore, the music students don’t have much access to or experience with strings or, more im- portantly, a string-chamber group. The Quartet’s stay in residence will give the music students a chance to have some access to a string- chamber group.

Brunswick string quartet in residence

There will be many op- portuni- ties for non-music majors to see the Quartet. On March 8 and 9, there will be open rehearsals at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 pm, there will be a recital featur- ing the Quartet. This recital will be held in the Recital Hall. On Thursday, March 10 at 8:00 pm, there will ba another recital in the Steele Recital Hall featuring the Quartet and the talented pianist, Frances Gray. The largest and final recital will be on Friday, March 11 at 8:00 pm in the Steele Recital Hall.

The Quartet will be play- ing with students and en- sembles form the UPEI mu- sic department. The. ex- pected performances include the Maydn Mass as per- formed by the Chamber Cho- rus, the second movement of the Dvorak Piano Quintet with pianist Faith Phillips, the first movement and the minuet- from Mozart’s kClarinet Quintet performed by clarinetists Christie Beck

The speaker for the din- ner is Dr. Peter Campbell, CEO and president of Mid- land Doherty Ltd. He will speak on the securities indus- try in accordance with Free Trade. He promises to be a very interesting and enter- taining speaker.

It should be noted that this is a fantastic opportu- nity for students to meet the business people of Charlotte- town and create contacts for summer job opportunities.
