MONTREAL, Dec. 5—A com- promise has been reached in the wage dispute between the railway shopmen, numbering some 35,000 employees throughout Canada, and the Canadian railways.

Both parties have agreed to e 15 percent reduction in wages for the year, dating from Dec. 16, thus bringing this important group of workers, comprising carmen, mach- inists, boiler-makers, blacksmiths, moulders, electrical and sheetmetal workers, into line with the running trades employees and a number of other bodies which have accepted similar reductions.

Men whcu bulletined working time is less than 40 hours per week will not be subject o; the 16 per- cent reduction but. shall have only 1O percent, the reduction in effect for the past year, taken from their pay cheques.
