The Indian defence minister. saying various statesmen had commented that the UN situation regarding China could not con- tinue indefinitely, added that among them were “our good friends, the Canadians.”

He mentioned L. B. Pearson leader of the Liberal opposition, forme external affairs minister and president of the UN General Assembly and quoted the Cana- dian as saying in a speech:

“How long are we oing to be able to support the U.S. position fon China'?”

Krishna Menon said Pearson's successor in the external affairs department, Sidney Smith, had spoken in a similar vein.

Green—working on a speech he is scheduled-to deliver to the as- sembly Thursday—was not pres- ent when the Indian spoke and a spokesman said there would be no comment on hs re marks.
