Tue Missive Steamer Lupwic.—The miss- ing steamer Ludwig bas now been out so long over her time that anxiety has given place to despair. The steamer’s cargo consists of glass, hardware and iron, among the latter being three hundred iron beams for the parliament houses in Quebec. She has on board in all about 280,000 packages, together with 144 ttle. The Ludwig’s cargo is valued at abont £200,000, and the ship $300,000. Total half a million. The ship is fully insured in Autwrep; and the cargo is variously insured. She aleo had a number of passengers.—Hz.

Tuere was a heavy rain storm at Sackville on Tuesday morning. In the midst of it there wag a brilliant flash of lightning, closely followed by an appalling peal of thunder. This was the whole of the thuederstorm, but there waa enough to render it memorable. The chimney of the Brunswick House was struck, and the building set on fire, The hotel was completely burnt, and it was with much difficulty that the adjacent stores and dwelliags were saved, There was insurance to the amount of 33,500, yet the loss of the proprie tor, } istabrooks, is very severe, He intends, however, to rebuild.

An Italian newspaper gravely announces, says an exchange, that Mr. Stanley, the African explorer, has accepted the title of king at the hands of the savage tribes among whom he is laboring in the interest of Commerce. He is te be styled, it adds, King Stanley of Congo, and is tobe in- vested with absolute authority to sign treaties and to exercise all the other func- tions of supreme sovereignty. When Mr. Stanley is in possession of his kingdom, he and M. de Lesseps will be in a position to condescendingly dictate terms to all the other monarchs of the world.

There was a long debate, characterized by much obstruction on the part of the [rish members, in the House of Commons, on the 14th, on the vote for legal expenses incurred in the recent critinal prosecutions in Ireland. MHarringten, member for Westmeath, alleged that Myles Joyce was judieially murdered. Callan, member for Louth, declared that the Government could have brought the Phceaix Park murderers to justice without the evidence of James Carey; but that Mr. William Harcourt contrived to have Carey accepted as an in- former for the purpose of endeavoring to connect some of the Irish members of Par- liament with the murders. Parnell re- peated the charges of jury packing in Ire- land, and of the reckless desire of the Gov- ernment to procure convictions for the purpose of striking terror among the people of that country. Porter, Attorney-General for Ireland, said that as long as atrocities in Ireland went unpunished, the means of inquiry allowed by law would be used without shrinking. Parnell moved that the amount of money provided for in the appropriation be reduced, but the motion was defeated by twenty-four yeas to ninety- four nays.

The steamer ‘‘Eureka,’’ which arrived at Victoria, B. C., on the 13th, brings news of a horrible tragedy at Dakau, near Harrisburg, Alaska. Two whiskey sellers named Rennie and Martin, got on a drunk, apd unceremoniously exchanged cabins. During the night the Indians broke into Martin’s cabin where Rennie was sleeping and stole a bottle of whiskey. Seon the fact was discovered and both started in

pursuit of the Indians, and in a fight which ensued Rannie was killed. The

citizens in force, arrested three Indians, confining them ina guard house. During the absence of the guard they procured a pistol, shooting him on return, and then fied. The firing awoke Mayor Givens, for- merly of the United States Army. He rushed to the resene, and was shot down and wounded. The Indians took an axe and hacked his head to pieces. The three Indians then atiempted to make good their escape, but a number of miners who had reached the scene shot one of them dead and arrested a second, and the third es- caped. The infuriated citizens constituted themselves a jury and hang@e the captured Indian the nest day. Col. Barry ordered the chiefs to produce the third, who had es- caped, and he was quickly delivered up and as promptly hanged.
