Onsuch occasions the crowd is apt to let its feelings get the better of its judgment; and this is what seems to have happened in Montreal.

It is the feeling exhibited by the Frencb- Canadian students tbat is the really sig- nificant and regrettable feature of the demonstration. Is it possible that we are rearing up ia this free Northern country any considerable number of individ uals who are, or may be, ready in a time of ex- citement and etress to hiss atand tear down the Union Jack and the free British institutions of which the Uaion Jack is the symbol?
