UPEI Theatre Society Holding General Meeting

All are welcome to the UPEI Theatre Society’s first general meeting to be held Thursday, September 15 at 4 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge of Main Building (Rm 101). Executive positions are up for grabs; including first-year rep and a promotions/marketing position. A director will also be needed for a first- semester production. Anyone with ideas, interest, or curiousity , please attend! We’d love to see you!

National Shinerama Chair Offers Heartfelt Thanks to UPEI

The chair of the National Shinerama Council is more than pleased with UPEI’s success during this year’s Shinerama fund-raiser. Drew Dudley said it is a rare thing for a school to double their donations in two years, and looks forward to our continued success.

“T couldn’t be more thrilled with UPETD’s recent Shinerama success. The work of Ryan McDermott, Shaun Coady and all of UPEI’s volunteers has created a campaign that is not only a tribute to your school, but an example to other campaigns of what youth, energy and friendship can make possible. Very rarely has a school been able to double their Shinerama contribution in just two years - and I firmly believe we will continue to see UPEI’s development as one of the country’s most successful campaigns.”

He singled out McDermott as an excellent leader, both on a provincial and a national level, adding the impact of McDermott’s Shinerama campaign will be felt elsewhere across Canada, not just in PE.I.

“T specifically want to applaud the leadership of Ryan McDermott, not just at UPEI, but as one of our most valuable and inspirational National Group Leaders. I believe Ryan’s legacy will be felt both at UPEI and at many other Canadian campuses. Over the course of the past several months, Ryan has not only helped lead UPEI’s campaign, but has served as an invaluable resource to fellow campaign directors across the country. His charismatic leadership, and the example that has been set by UPEI’s Shinerama volunteers has helped many other campaigns set new benchmarks as well.”

Dudley added that the contribution that has been made by UPEI has not gone unnoticed at the national level.

“My respect and admiration for all that you have done at UPEI is immense.

On behalf of everyone involved in Shinerama and the fight against cystic fibrosis, I offer my heartfelt thanks!”

Student Societies Make an Impact

It’s no secret that some of the biggest cultural changes in recent history have come about as a result of student activity and activism. The one common factor is that most of the changes happened as a result of the actions of groups, rather than individuals.

Now is your chance to make your mark as one of those groups. Between now and the end of September, gather your group of like minded students and register as an “official” society with the Student Union. You'll get a little bit of cash to help with start up and administration stuff; you’ ll also be eligible for the general support of the Student Union with things like promotions at The Wave or selling hot dogs at campus events. ;

New Procedure for Study Rooms

We will now be using your University Campus Card to sign out study rooms in our automated library system similar to signing out a reserve item. You will no longer have to leave an ID, keys, etc. with us in exchange for the key but you must present your Campus Card. Fines will be charged for “overdue” keys based on the hourly reserve fine of $1.10/hour. One card (almost) does itall!
