What are the Points hhat the Canadian growermust think oNiFhe isto produce quality seed? Once a new variety is re- leased ior production, it must be kept true to name. The Canadian Seed Growers‘ Association has set up standards which. ii followed religiously. will result in keeping the variety reasonably true to Home. The principal thing in these regulations is isol- ation distances. Beans, peas and lettuce may be grown within 25 feet o! another var- iety wiairout any danger oi crossing. Toma- toes require 100 ieet separation; Billnlant and pepper 150 feet; and asparagus, carrots, onions. leeks, radishes, parsnips, cabbage, cauliflosver, and Brussels Sprouts, 1-4 mile; beets 3-4 mile; sweet com 1-2 miles: and spinach-Popeyds specialty -- about 1-4 mile.

In annual flowers. there are several outstanding new varieties. There is Col- ossal Shadesior Rose, a silver- medal win- ner in the All-American trials. This is the first large all double petunia produced in America. With its flowers oi four and a hall’ inches in din-meter. it is worthy oi any gardeners effort. Bright Eyes Petunia- All-American bronze winner in leis-i: n remarkable fine uniform petunia of the dwarf compact habit and extremely florifer- ous. ‘Think oi e. more compact Rosy Morn and you have a good picture of what Bright Eyes looks like. The third All-American winner in 1946 is Peach Red Petunia which received Honorable Mention. Here is a new color in petunias. It is a deep salmon suffused light red. The plants are hybrid and compact type being only seven to nine inches tall.

The only new vegetable in i946 to merit attention is longreen. It is a green 5MP bean, longer than Tendergreen, is ‘round in shape and high table quality.
