The Statistical secretary. Rev. T. G. Head, said that the report of the Statistical committee would be very brief, because seven sche- dules were not in in time to be studied. Rev. D. W. MacPhcisoii urged that each charge do its utmost. to secure its full share of the allo- cation for the Mount Allison cam- paign, and recommended that students from Mt. "'l'he food and clothing sent t0 needy families was donated by our members. of the three families to whom this was consigned. only one has acknowledged, both food and clothing. another has ack- knowledged food only and no re- sponse has been received from the third."

"During this past year we en- deavoured to do more work in the way of assisting schools, uid while all we hoped to do was not. ac- complished, still I believe we have achieved something worthwhile

in the future. Our Chapter gave cash prizes of $3.00 each to five of the City Schools. These prizes were given to Grade 7 pupils for "Cit- lzenshlp", "Marked Progress" 01' |"Sustalned Effort." We purchased 50 calendars. l5 of which WON‘ iglven to schools in the City and l5 "to schools in king's County.

lwns given to the Musical Festival. ‘ "Our Chapter purchased 40 pic- turen of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, to be placed in the schools of King's County, All the Chapters of l’.O.D.E. in "J11! Province agreed to buy these NC- turcs or those of the King and Queen, so that they might be av- allable to all schools uu-oushwt the Province. We have given them to the Board of Education for dis- trlbutlon.

"We also decided this yen- to adopt n school in King's County. However, due to the road condi- tions and lateness of the season it has been impossible to vlst this school yet. Some very fine books havé been donated for the library of this school, and it ls hoped to place them there when travelling permits.

"During the year two commit- tee meetings were held, consisting of the Regents and Educational secretaries of the four Island chapters, and presided over ‘ by Mrs. T. A. Campbell, Summer-side, our Provincial Educational Secre- tnry. These eetlngs proved very

successful and were most helpful

“In connection with Empire Cor- respondence we were eble to se- cure the names of 33 children from Prince Street School who wished to be linked as ‘pen-pals’ with children of other parts oi the Empire.

"At our March meeting your educational secretary read a pap- er on ‘Australia,’ following which two films on that country and its people were shown by Mr. Mar- tin of the Film Board.

"At the April meeting Misc Mildred Harrington gave a talk on Trinidad, which was greatly enjoyed. Later that evening Mr. Martin showed our film ‘Opening of Canadian Parliament.’ Our members are grateful to Miss Harrington and to Mr. Martin for their help.

"We have continued our work of distributing books from the library at the Sanitoriusn to the patients each week, throughout the entire year. As convenor of your library committee I take this opportunity of thanking all who so cheerfully give of thelr time to this important and inter- esting work. It is apparent that our efforts are appreciated and, knowing this, it makes us feel that the time spent there is time well spent. Although this ls not strict- ly an educational project, lt looks as though I'm to be convenor again for 1950, so I ask for your continued support."

"The Imperial Order Daughters of the lompire are striving to do just that -— and though our Chap- ter ls a very small Lnk in the great chain of Chapters across the Continent, I em sure each one oil us feel privileged and honored to bc able to contribute what we can toward such on endeavor.

‘The ycm: 194!) has bun the best ycur ill our history. We have a mcmlscisnip o! twenty-one and in my opinion a Liner group could not be found. Each member has a job to do and is unfailing in her efforts, and l want to thank you for the fine cooperation you have given. me ln every department of our work.

‘The Chapter regrets the con- tinued illness of ourdianorsry Regent, Mrs. W. E. Bentley. We tiust "and pray her health may improve and 1950 find her able to be about her duties once again.

“Our work at the Provincial Sanitarium goes on through sum- mer lnd winter, two of our mem- bers going weekly to distribute books to the patients. Dr. Creel- man never fails to write and thank us for our efforts in this field.

"In cooperation with the Royal Edward, The Aibegwelt and the Lucy Maud Montgomery Chap- ters, we held an historical ex- hibition which proved a great nieces: and we look forward to making this an annual event. "This year we felt that In the past we h-ad rather neglected our welfare work, therefore we put aside a sum of money to be used for the help of needy families in our city. -

"The annual Tag Day was car- ried on and netted a neat sum.

"Our educational secretary has reported on our tvork in that de- psrtment. This work under the very capable leadership 0d Miss Marjorie Stewart has been far above our evlersgc.

"Mrs. Hazel Roop has also done a fine work as poet war convenor. He: report will show what has been accomplished in this flcld.

“In closing I thank you for your trust and good fellowship and for the honor you have done me in asking me to continue still sn- othei- year as your Regent.

"We are entering a new ycar and my only request ls that. you continue to be loyal and true to the greet principles set down by our Order and ever to llve up and work for the reel mining of our Chaptei-‘s Motto-For the Public Good."

A discussion followed regarding the prayer which ls to be reed in all churches on Sunday. Febru- ary 12, commemerettng the 50th anniversary of the founding of I.O.D.E.

Increased Totals

The number of voters yesterday was estimated to be wnsldembly higher than those of 1946. There were about 700 more votes cast in the mayoralty contests, approxim- ately 900 more for the councillors and 1,427 more for the water com- mlssloners than there were four years ago.

The mayoralty was not contest.- ed in 194.8, Mayor MacDonald be- ing returned by occlamation.
