Approrriatep Oats.—Before H, V. Palmer and John Maceachern, J, P’s., yesterday afternoon, a peddler named Thos. Williamson, was convicted of ap- propriating a quantity of hay and oats from the premises of Bruce MeMillan, Brackley Point Road, on Thursday last. It appears that Williamson and his wife, peddling tins, lace, etc., about the country, visited Me- Millan’ s residence, and in the absence of Mr. McMillan, prevailed upon his wife to

give them a quantity of oats. The ac- tions of Williamson and his wife so alarmed Mrs. McMillan, that she told

them they could take a small quantity of

oats, but instead of taking a small lot, they took about five bushels and also

about two ewt. of hay, despite the remon- strances of Mrs,McMillan. Mrs. William- son left some pillow shams at McMillan’s as payment for the oats and hay, which Mrs. McMillan declined to receive, saying she did not wantthem. Upon Mr. Me- Millan’s return home the facts of the case were reported to him, and he had Williamson arrested. It being the of- fe snder’s first conviction the Magistrates, in the terms of the statute, discharged the offender from his conviction, upon his having made satisfaction to McMillan for his damage and costs,

THE EASTERN CAMPAIGN,
