Lions Spring Surprise BARRY’8 Lions have squared their best-of.seven semi-final t - League series with National Park All-Stars with that tlmattc 3-2 tniumpnh on Wednesday night. They were looking toward the future and the possibility of nailing a berth in the league finals. If you kept looking at the records. you would probably arrive I the conclusion that the Parkdale crew didn't belong on the some diamond with the All-Stars. But this kind of opinion was not shared by Art Ballem and his associates who perform for Mr. Barry Moore. They convinced themselves that they had a good. chance of upsetting the apple cart and they went out there to the Park's old diamond determined to carry out their plan. vo games are now history and the Lions find themselves Ill even with a 1-1 record.

Ari Ballem Is Hero

WHILE all the players deserve a pat for their surprise hul- umph. we must salute first the old maestro himself, Art Balleln. who hurled the Lions to their triumph. Not only did Balloon em- tge the winning hurler but he drove in the deciding run that put the series in the 1-1 knot.

Art is a great competitor and as keen a student of softball as you will find in these parts. His success with the Lions at this stage of proceedings is something he has really worked on. Na- turally. he was delighted with the way things went Wednesday but he wasn't doing any boasting. But you could tell that he thinks

HOWEVER, Art knows as well as we do that one victory doesn't win a series. He needs three more over these All.Stars and that's a mighty assignment. ’

Mike Connolly has moulded together a smart aggregation and they possess a terrific team spirit. We don't know any club that can beat them on that score.

Last week in their battle for first place with the Irish, it.-hey mowed heir real metal by staging a five run uprising in the sev- lnﬂl to grab the top rung of the ladder.

These Park boys have a well balanced gang. They can hit with real authority, field as good as any other team and have a crafty pitching staff. Their finishing on top in regular schedule play was richly deserved and no fluke entered into it.

g The All-Stars have a great following from the Park area and these good folks are convinced their boys are going to bo all the way. We wouldn't bet against this happening because these [ads have a perfect license to grab all the marbles.

The All-Stars have done remarkably well in their flreshmen year and everything would be complete if they emerge as champions.

Right now Barry's Lions are attempting to prove stumbling blocks to this energetic group or softball players.

Track Meet Planned

TIIE Provincial command of The Canadian Lemon will sponsor a track and field meet at Summerside tomorrow, Sat.- urday. commencing at 1.30.

This meet is designed for athletes in the East Prince area and is staged in co-operation with the local branches of the zone and the provincial branch of the Amateur Athletic Union o§_4Canada.

Events will include running. jumping and throwing for all ages and for both boys and girls.

"For further information concerning the meet, interested athletes are asked to contact their nearest Legion hramch.

One of the best City Softball League games of the season was seen at the Old Diamond last evening when the BIS Sham- rocks nipped Canadian Tire Pis- tons 7-6 in the first game of a best of seven semi-final series for the City title.

The game went eight full in- ings before a winner could be decided. At the end of the regu- lation seven innings the score was deadlocked at 6-all.

It was a see-saw battle all the way and going into the sev- enth the Pistons were trailing 5-3.
