They moved to Portugal and stayed there until warned by British intelligence: of a Nazi plot_to kidnap them. Churchill, now prime minister, found a job for his old master. The Wind- sors were whisked across the Atlantic to the sunny Bahamas, where for the next five years the duke. who had ruled an Em- pire, ruled a tiny colonial terri- tory 3.900 miles from the. war That was his last job for Brit- ain.

RETURNED TO PARIS

September, 1945, saw the Windsors back in Paris, trying to reorganize their lives
