Proceeding, Mr. Campbell showed chat when that Goveroment came into power the subsidy from Ottawa was $187,000. We got an increase for population, and the government of the day pressed our claims aad obtained what are now termed windfalls. The Conserva- tives got in all $117,000 asd saved that much in taxesto the people. But by missrepresentation the Conservatives were defeated at the polls. They went out of power leaving an increased subsidy of $20,000.

Tus present government came in with that advantage and got up a statement that there was a debt of $171,000. They iseued debenture for $185,000 io do certain works—works which they never perform ed — and today tbey are about issuing debentures azain promising to do what they said they would do before. Is not this deceiving the people. They promised torun the finances properly, but in the first year iheir expenditure was 2304,000, and their deficit $30,000. Each year since it bus been the same, and they piled up a debt of half a million against this province They charge the Conservative party with drawing $260,000 trom capital, yet at the time this was done the measure for it was paseed by the Lib- eral Legislative Couneiil. If it wae wrong the Liberals are equally guilty with the Coneervatives. Besidee, the Con- servative Government in taking the money

Aud Whereas. the Government have completely failed to carry out their pre~ election promises to the electorate of this Province, but have greatly iucreased the expenditures and reduced our revenue by expending large sums of money on our roads, upon pelitical favorites, and wast- iog the assets of the Province by giving large discounts ip the Land Office.

And Whereas, The Government for the last five years have not made any effort to place the finarces of this Province in @ preper condition, but have extravagantly spent our revenues on our ferry eystem and upon a'l the various branches of the pub lic service thereby creating large deficits every year thus rclling np a very large and burdensome debt, whieh has een largely increased this present setsion by the legis~ lation already passed raising the debt to nearly $1,000,090, which will require nearly all the taxes at present collected te meet toe ansual accruing interest.

Resolved, That im the opinion of this House & commitiee of seven members of this House should be appointed to examine into the fioancial standing of thie Province with a view to ascertaining what reductions can be made n the expenditures in the various branches of the public service, said commi'tes to have power te send for person®, papers and records of all the several! departmenta.
