There are under construction at the Rail way Car Shops two passenger cars, which will be a valuable jaddi ion to the rolling stock of the Railway They are built from plans recently sele cted in Chicago by Mr. Fraser, foreman of the car works. ‘They are of the style known as Pa'llman’s latest patent, and, when finished, will cost the handsome sum of five thousand dollars each. In dimensions they are fifty-three feet long, by seven feet ten inches broad, and will each have a seating capacity for fifty-six persons. The material of which they are being built is the very best—the fraiaes being oak and iren and the sheath- ing white wood. They will be elaborately finished in the interior, with polished ash and mahogany, aud be fitted with ali the latest improvements. The seats will be of the Queen Anne style, with rattan cushions, while the mounting of the seats and other fixtures will be nickel plated. James Spear’s patent hot air stove will be used as a heating apparatus, and the ventilation will be of the most improved system finished we beiieve these cars bsauty, strergth and comfert, compare favorably with any of tlie kind on the Continent. Mr. Dusworth, «ho is super- intending the building of these handsome cars, yesterd«y showed us through the Mechanical department. It presents a very creditable appearance. Mr. R Vessey occupied the Chair. Mr. Thomas De)hausty opened the subject and argued “that love was the passion. Mr. Michael Haley, respondent, next rose aud showed the other side ia the best light. After a lively dis- cussion by other members of the Club, it | was decided on division that hatred was the stronger passion. Our last debate was on the fv llowing subject: ‘* Would a Cheese Factory be a benefit to this community.” Mr. Francis Pratyht opened the subject aud argued that it would be a benefit, and every member should encourage one Mr. Mr. R. V essey respi onded, replied and | brought up strong arguments to shew that there was no be nefit arising from a factory of this kind. He said to manufacture three month’s milk at home, and to compare the resulta with that of an equal quantity sent to the factory, that the home, manufacture

On the evening of the 19th inst, Alexander Me- Neill, Esq , by invitation, delivered his lecture on “ ‘Education,” to a very large and appreciative audienca in the Mount Melick Schoolneuse. A shout of applause ‘rang through the room as the learned gentleman resumed his seat. For, not many years ago, the same Mr. McNeill stood in this. very roow and interpreted the subjects necessary for a good education to this same audience. who now sat before him. In connection with this, it may not be amias to siy afew words cmeerning the Clab under whose auspices the g-n'lemin lec- tured. This club was organized a few months ayo for the improvement of the menbers, by means of debates, lectures, readings, ete, The membership of the club is rapidly increasing, and we would ask youog who have not become members, to psy us a yisit and be convinced of its usefulness.
