ScnooxeR Seizep.—The scar. Snow Drift, Capt. Thomas Thistle of Souris, was seized on the 20th ult., at Great Bras D'Or, C. B., é for violation of customs law. Fifty gallons rum, two cases gin and one case spirits were found on board and not entered on the clear- ance. Officer Kerr did the seizure. The schooner is now stripped, and a $400 fine will probably be exacted before she isreleased. The | Captain says the liquors were brought on board at French St. Pierre without his | knowledge. He is chief owner of the vessel | and purchased her not long since at Halifax at a cost of fifteen hundred dollars,

MoonLicut Excursion.—The annual moon- light excursion of the Artillery Brigade Band was held last night. The steamer St. Law-| rence left the S. N. Co’s. wharf shortly after | eight o'clock, and proceeded down the Hills- | borough and out on the Bay as far as Point’ Prim. The night was lovely, the moonlight | making it almost as bright as day. The water was calm as 4 will pond. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. this morning, some miscreant entered the South End Boating Club’s boat house and

to their new four-oared shell, which was entered for the race to take place at Pictou this afternoon. The thief left no clue what- ever, only the monkey wrench which he used in accomplishing this treacherous act being found on the floor, under the boat. What the miscreant’s motive was for so doing is hard to say, but he evidently intended to ruin the reputation of the oarsmen of the South End who are endeavoring to keep up the reputation of Charlottetown in aquatics, This mean, contemptible, dastardly act cannot be laid at the door of anyone but a villian, who, with not enough heart to;revenge himself on any one individual, took this underhand way of revenging his spite. Our only hope is that the coward will be captured and punished to the utmost extent of the law. We under- stand that the boat went, nevertheless, the crew agreeing to use two odd row-locks.

Reardon Captured.

Frepericron, N, B., Sept. 1.

Deputy Sheriff Hawthorne returned yes- terday with Bartholomew Reardon in charge, whom he arrestec at Northampton, Carleton County, on a warrant issued by Police Magistrate Marshen, on the infor- mation of Manus Gallagher, of Canterbury, for killing four of his cows by mixing poisvn , with salt and scattering the mixture on tle grass.
