Sugar Coupon Case Continued

Failure of the prosecution yes- terday morning to link Lawson MacEachern, Cherry Valley. chur- ged with possession of counterfeit susar coupons ‘with the delivering of four sheets of coupons to Car- vell Bros, and one sheet to De- Biuis Bros, caused an adjournment of the case at the request of the ﬁrosecution until this morning. About a wcek later, the accused took four of the sheets to Carvell Bros, and had obtained four bags of sugar for_them. Two of the bags contained white sugar and the other two. yellow sugar. A week later. the ac- cused had taken the remaining sheet to DeBlols Bros.. and had ob- tained another bag. The accused had taken the five bags of sugar to the store of his father, J. E. MscEschern Cherry Valley, where ‘the sugar was sold over the coun- e

Albion. brother of the accused; had corne to him and had asked the accused if he had got into any trouble over the five bags of sugar. The witness (C. Guy Scott) raid he had checked up on the store of J. E. MacEachern, Cherry Valley. on Oct. 6, 1944. and had found sugar, preserves and molasses to the a cunt of 496% pounds. ._ n Nov. last witness had chec ed the store again and found 691 pounds. This meant, the witness said. that if the five bags of sugar obtained from the five sheets of coupons found on Market Square, had not been sold at J Mac- Eachenrs store. there was a surplus of about 200 pounds of sugar; if the five bags had been sold there. there was a shortage of about 300 pounds of sugar.
