Among the surprised citi- zens of the province was Mrs. Walter R. Shaw, wife of the premier.

A reliable source told this paper last night that shortly after the election announce- ment was made Mrs. Shaw received a call from a story hunting reporter in Halifax concerning the election.

This was her first indica- tion that the election was to be held this year and not in 1963 as had been thought most likely.
