Season 0n Huns, Pheasants Was Open In Name Alone

The season on Huns 5nd phea- pants closed on November 3rd and from reports received to date it was an open season In name only. More covies of huns wore in evidence than general- ]\' supposed existed but they Kept well undercover. It was a tough spring and general sum- mer conditions did not improve the situation with regard to tho rearing of normal broods of young. In normal years Hun corcys average between 18 and 22 This season initial reports indicate the average covey was in the 12 to 15 bracket. I have information on over 20 coveys and only three hold 20 mom- bm's or over.

CLOSE TO ZERO

The take by hunters was close to the zero mark. One local Hun hunter. who possesses a lo smier. bagged two during the short open season. He found one covey of 12. Two visiting hunt- ei‘s from the States. who have hunted here for years and pos— st'ss top Setters and Pointers spent 5 days‘ afield and never fired a shot. They are familiar with both the hunting areas and farmers in a number of dis- tricts but failed to make con- tut-t on a single covey although they hunted. and hunted hard. in areas where coveys were known to exist.
