New Home Of

.-.tYeslerday No. 3 Branch Can- adian Legion officially opened their new Legion Home in Souris. Proceedings commenced at 2.30 pm. (standard time) with I parade of Legion veterans. Girl Guides and school children. The parade was led by the boys hand of the Queen Charlotte High School of Charlottetown. The parade was under the com- mand of parade marshal Neil Macintosh. It formed at new Le- gion home and moved off to the monument to the west end of the town where a wreath was placed by Legion president W. '1). Pierce after Last Post and Reveille. The parade then proceeded to the east end of the town and re- turned to the Legion Home. The chairman F. C. White ask- ed Comrade E. Foch MacDonald M.M.. President of Provincial Command Canadian Legion to cut the ribbon officially opening the new home.

Presbyterian Sec'y Decides To Retain Post

TORONTO tCPl-Dr. A. Neil Miller of Toronto. secretary of stewardship and budget for the Presbyterian Church in Canada. who tried to resign because of "curtailed freedom of speech" reconside mi Wednesday and de- cided to stick to his post.

When the church general assem- bly refused to accept his resigna- tion Dr. Miller said he would not press the issue. He said:

"i regret my statement in ref- ercnce to freedom of speech has been misunderstood by some mem- bers of the assembly.

''I intended to say that accept- ance of office requires a surrender of freedom of speech as a neces- sary part of group loyalities and usefulness. I did not intend to sug- gest that any person or board had interfered with my rights of free speech."

A committee formed to change Dr. Miller's mind and investigate his reasons. reported Wednesday that lack of co-operation between church boards had disturbed Dr. Miller.

Rev. Finlay Stewart of Kitch- ener. 0nt.. reported that the church has survived a crisis in recruiting of ministers. Six years ago the church had ceased to raise enough ministers to supply grow- ing congregations

But 00 men a year are being graduated from theological col- leges and more are expected in the future, Mr. Stewart said. Recruiting of deaconesses was increasing. too.

"Young men and women now look on church work as an adven- ture and a challenge," he said. '”Our whole attitude has changed in these six years."
