This year the Gem is host- ing an ARCUP (Atlantic Region Canadian University Press) Con- ference here at UPEI. Universi- ties from all over the Atlantic

region will be sending delegates here for three days. The date for this conference is set for October 6,7, and 8 (Friday, Sat.,and Sun.,)

If you know anyone involved with a student paper at any At- lantic University it is possible they will be here in October.

This conference will consist of an opening plenary, two or three seminars, and a closing plenary. As well as the above there will be a party on Saturday night for all of the participants in his confer- ence, along with any other Gem volunteers and freinds.

Since he delegates who will be attending his conference are all studens they cannot offer to stay at hotels during their stay. For

this reason we badly need serveral bolunteers to billit as amny peo- ple as possible for Friday and Sat- urday nights (Oct. 6,7). If you can take one or two people during this time please contact myself or leave a message at the Gem office as soon as possible.

These conferences are not only informative, they are a lot of fun too! If you are the kind of person who likes organizing events and activities please drop by the Gem office and offer some suggestions.

Remember layout night is Tuesday at 6:00 and everyone is welcome!

Canadian Crossroads Interna- tional, a charitable non-profit organization promoting interna- tional development and educa- tion, is accepting applications for overseas placement in its 1990 prgram.

All placements are in one of 35

| developing countries and last 4-6

months. The minimum age of ap- plicants is 19 years, with no max-

imum age. A specialized skill is not essential. Application dead- line is October 1.
