Tue Lazier murder trial has been concluded at Picton, Ort. The prisoners, Tompsett and Lowder, were both found guilty of mur- der, and sentenced to be hanged on the 9th of June. Tompsett, on being asked if he had anything to say, remarked that he was not guity, bat would ‘‘take it like a man.” Lowder said he would just as soon hang with | his compauion in crime as serve a long term | of imprisonment.

Hanian.—Mr. George \V. Stuart has sold his trotting horse Hanlan to Mr. C. Willough- vy Anderson of Halifax, who has now un- doubtedly got the fastest four-year old in Nova Scotia. Hanlan is not yet four, as he was foaled on the 15th June, 1881, on the farm of Mr. William Dennis, Margate, P. E. I., sired by Highland Chief, he by Dean Swift, dam Bess, one of the best bred mares on the Island.-- Truro Sin. |

These prepared fertilizers, are, no doabt, regarded with a good deal of suspicion; and the best thing farmers can do is to purchase it in small quantities and give it a fair trial. If they find it does’nt pay, buy no more and tell their neighbors aboat it ; if it does, why— do the other thing.

Pexuarps the most successful of our young Islanders abroad is Mr. James C. McKachen, youngest son of John McEachen, Esq, mer- chant of this city. He bas lately graduated with high honors from the Law University of New York. and received the title of L. L. B. He cannot practice, however; until next November. The degrees are to be conferred by the Rev. Dr. John Hall in the Academy of Music, New York, on May 15, when addvesses will be delivered by students of the University and leading lawyers of New York. Mr. McEachen is one of the three composing the managing committee to arrange a programme, &c., for the occasion. We congratulate our young friend on his success, he being oaly in his twentieth year.—Herald.

There are two classes of horses, which tt is to the interest of ths farmer to raise for export purposes, —heavy draft horses, which command sure sale and good prices, and the fine dark bay, or black, roadsters which are the pride of wealthy gen- tlemen in the great cities, and the admiration of all who take an interest in racing. Her- nando is one of the latter class; and many of

his offspring, from our well-bred mares, will, no doubt, bring fancy prices. oe

Tue eastern section of the Methodist Trans- fer Committee convened in the vestry of the Methodist church, Moncton, on Wednesday. There were present: Revs. 8S. T. Teed, Presi- dent of the N. B. and P. E. 1. Conference, P. E. Island; W. H. Heartz, President of the Nova Scotia Conference, Yarmouth; J. Gaetz, Amherst, and H. Daniels, St. John. Dr. Rice, President of the General Conference, Toronto, was to have been present, but owing to sickness wat prevented. Revs. BR. Wilson and T, J. Deinstadt were also present as visi-

ters. Rev. Mr. Daniels was elected to the chair and Rev. J. Gactz was chosen as secre- tary. The only important business transacted

was the transfer by the committee of Rev. N W. Percival from the Newfoundland to the Toronto Conference.

They lived at St. John, An- napolis, and afterward returned to Boston. *‘My husband drank and gambled and con tinued to abuse me,” said the libellant. “On the 26th of May, 1 went to the beach to get money t> pay the rent.
