We hear wii; regret of the death at Prinee Albert, N. W. T., of Mr. Hngh Jobn Montgomery,'sen of the late Senator Montgomery, of Park Corner. The de- ceased bad re ided in the Nerth West for a numberof years. Pneumonia was the cause of death Mr. Montgomery was twice marricd. His first wife was a daugh- ter of the late Alexander McNeill, of Cavendish, and a sisterofMr. Ohbeater B. McNeill, of Victoria, B. C.

Dear Mas. McRar, —Now that I have commenced writing to you I fee) 1 must continue to do so, unless you request me to refrain. 1 was interrupted so often while writing and had to fioish so hur- riedly that I trust you will pardon all errors,

It wae one of our days for collecting “ruit, delicacies etc., for the sick and wounded at Orange River; and the knocks at the front door were very frequent. There are a few Joyal families in the town, avd we want to do what we can for those who are doing #0 much forue. There are many wealthy people in Cape Town and suburbs, so the base hospital at Wynberg ia well supp'ied. And we send all we can up nerth. Then when the ambulance traias pass south with their sad ireight we bave been able to take them milk, strawberries, jellies, custards, ani such like. This is not told in boastfuloes*, dear madam, but because I feel sure you wil be pleased to bear these details.

The ambulance trains are splendidly fitted up, with about 80 or 90 cots in each, two lady nurses, and a large staff of male helpers, doctor and pharmacy, cook, as- eistanta &c. The kitchen and paatry are moet comfortable, and they have a re- frigerator co keep fruit, &c., cool, to take back when they retare empty.

Oo the 30th Novenbera number of the Gordon Highlanders passed north, some of whom helped to storm Dargai. A few days before the British Grenadiers went up, and one rather middle-aged maa told us he had been through the Zulu campaign in Natal,aad fought at Isildan wana, Tbe South African Review, of December Ist, a very reliable weekly pa- per, has tke following :

A very touching tribute comes from the coloured leper patients who ave confined on Rolben Island, they raised a sub- scription and sent the contribution to the military secretary “‘in aid of her Majesty’s wounded soldiers.”

The secretary’s report wae very satisfactory and the treasurer’s report showed the society to be on a firm financial footing. The Soeiety is ander the spiritual direc-~ tion of Father Jebnston and is doing a good work along temperance lines.
