All 1991 Canada Games registered placed and unplaced volunteers from the Charlottetown area with their last name beginning with the letter M to Z are asked to come to the Charlottetown Canada Games Civic Centre on Saturday, November 24, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm for accreditation.

Also, any volunteers with their Ist name beginning with A to L who missed the accreditation session on November 17 are asked to come this Saturday.

Volunteers in Prince and Kings County will be accredited on the following dates: Summerside, December 8, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Summerside Recreation Centre. O’Leary, December 8, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the West Prince Regional Services Centre. Cardigan, December 15, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Cardigan Consolidated School.

Canada Games Facts

Approximately 2,500 athletes will compete in the 1991 Winter Games. A total of 30,000 athletes have competed during the 24-year history of the Games.

More than 5,000 Prince Edward Islanders and their families will be involved in the staging of Games in different regions of the province. Since 1967, 45,000 Canadians have donated their time to the Games.

There are 16 summer events and 19 winter events spread out over 12 days of competition.

Athletes at the 1991 Winter Games will compete in

Volunteer Accreditation

the following sports: artistic gymnastics, badminton, biathlon, boxing, cross-country skiing, curling, fencing, figure skating, hockey, judo, racquetball, ringette, rhythmic sportive gymnastics, shooting (air

pistol and air rifle), speed skating, squash, synchronized swimming, table tennis and weightlifting.

The Games occur every two years, alternating between summer and winter competitions.

Each province and territory sends a team. Athletes compete for individual medals while the teams compete for the Canada Games flag.

The budget for the 1991 Winter Games is approximately $26 million.

The 1993 Summer Games will be held in Kamloops, British Columbia and Alberta was recently awarded

the 1995 Winter Games.

Angela Bailey, Rob Boyd, Toller Cranston, Bob Gainey, Diane Jones-Konihowski, Brian Orser, Lui Passaglia and Dave Steen are just some of the Canadians who have competed in the Canada Games.
