For instance, one coach will re- fuse to predict the outcome with this remark: “We take ’em one at a time.” The other coach most likely will counter with: “Those guys are no different. They still put their socks on one at a time like any other human being.”

Management apparently felt Walker and his staff had done a good job in finishing second. Most prognosticators in preseason bal- lotting had picked the A15 to flu- ish in the cellar.

The season, marked by injuries to such all-star players as end Hal Patterson and guard B-ill Al- bright, was described as a re- building year. Many new Cana- dian playtrs and several new American imports vere brought in to fill vacancies left in the 1957 lineup.

It was a season when Canadian players under Walker showed at their best. The showing was cli- maxed by backfielder Bill Bew- ley, a native of Toronto, winning

February. 1957. was a 2-I0-1 un-

dcrdog. The only knockdown of the fight was a "long count" nine in

the second round, reminiscent of the famous “long count“ of the Gene Tunney . Jack Dempsey scrap in Chicago in 1927.

The fast-moving fast-punching Folley sent Bygraves slumping to the canvas with a short right cross. The Jamaican, dazed and bewildered, sat on the deck as the count mounted to nine.

Then Byngraives looked toward the timekeeper, shouted “is that nine?” and stumbled to his feet.

It seemed to rin-gsiders the count had gone past 10 before Bygraves got up but the Britislt referee Frank Wilson allowed the bout to continue and Bygraves fought back.

Referee Wilson stopped the fight at 2:59 of the ninth round.
