Were you there? Because if you were, there's nothing that can be said about Halloween night at The Wave that you don't already know. It was energetic. It was packed. It was wild.

And if you weren't there, let's just say about twelve-hundred other people sure made their best attempt at enjoying themselves despite your absence.

I've never seen a crowd like it. Okay, I've seen crowds like it before, but never at a UPEI event. It was unbelievable.

There were many bright spots to the night. The costumes were impressive. Very impressive. The amount of work that university stu- dents are willing to put into Halloween costuming is incredible. I'm thinking that Value Village probably made a small fortune over the last month. Most costumes showed real creativity, and complete strangers were compli- menting other's attempts at Halloween hilarity. It was a good atmosphere for the most part.

The Jimmy Swift Band have never put on a bad show. They're high energy, they're tight, they're exciting, and they're pretty wicked to dance to; however, comments from the band after this particular show suggested

that they felt like the Halloween crowd gathered at The Wave wasn't a typical Jimmy Swift audience.

Despite the fact that most peo- ple enjoyed the pub, it is impossible to say that the night didn't have a few major drawbacks.

It was packed. I think I've already mentioned that. But, seriously, there's not much else you can say. At one point or another during the night, everyone said, "there are too many

_ people here". The lines to buy drinks were too long. Way too long. There were too many people in the ‘dance

floor area'. It was impossible to dance. You could sort of sway with the crowd, but that's not really what the Jimmy Swift experience is supposed to be about — possibly the reason for the less than enthusiastic comments from Jimmy Swift band members. Also, possibly the reason for the fights.

Yah. Fights. An anonymous employee of The Wave asked me to include this message to the combat- ants: "Oh, and to the people who fought: Way to go! That was SO cool. Really added to the atmosphere, y'know."

This certainly wasn't your typi- cal UPEI Halloween night. Maybe that's what The Wave was going for — An event which bared little resem- blance to the former Halloween nights spent at The Barn. But perhaps this was too much of a switch. Too fast.

Or, perhaps not. I suppose it depends on which side of the fence you're on. Or which side of the fight- ing, bar-lines, and dance-floor you were on. This was certainly an inter- esting Halloween night. And I would say, an unforgettable one.
