Red Cross BloodClinics Slated For East Prince

This week the Summerside ar- ea and the RCAF Station will be making their second attempt this year to win the Manning Trophy which is awarded each year to the centre having the highest percentage of attendance at Red Cross blood donor clin- lcs.

The Kensington area will also be making its once a year bid for this’ coveted award when a clinic is held at the Legion Home on Thursday evening.

In 1963 competition for the trophy. Souris is still in the lead as the result of the 127 per cent response achieved at its yearly clinic held last Aug- ust. Charlottetown is in second place with 20 per cent. and Morell is third with 119 per t.

Mayor J. Ernest Morrison brought greetings from the Town of Summerside. He termed the lions club as being "very public spirited." He commended the club especially for its service in providing eyeglasses for needy children. "Handicapped people deeply appreciate this type of help."‘ Mayor Morrison added. He congratulated the charter members and welcomed the new members. He said that no club wants new members just to “booost the membership roster."'

A toast to the charter mem- bers was proposed by Eddy Gaudet and responded to by Herbert Schurman. charter pre- sident of the club.

Mr. Schurman noted that in 1964. P.E.I.'s Centennial year. the Summerside Lions Club will be 10 years old. in a motor vehicle accident.

His attending physician.

S. R. Cameron. Summerside. said last evening that DesRoch- es received facial lacerations and fracture, and shoulder frac- ture. The accident in which Mr. DesRoches was injured occurr- ed about 8 pm. when the small car which he was driving was in collision with the rear of a parked truck.

The truck. driven by George MacKinnon. O'Leary. was said to have been parked on the side of the Trans- Canada Highway about 400 yards east of the mil- itary road of RCAF Station Su- mmerside near the Curran and Briggs paving plant. with two flat tires on the rear.

Mr. MacKinnon was nearby awaiting assistance when the car driven by DesRoches struck the rear of the parked truck. Damage to the truck was minor. while the small car of English make sustained about $800 dam- age.

DesRoches was taken to the Prince County Hospital by Compton's ambulance.’ RCMP the Summerside detach- ment investigated.
