DIES UNEXPECTEDLY -- Mr. Francis J. McAree, '74, formerly of Ft. Augustus, died unexpectedly at the Russ Hotel early today. He passed avvay in bed about 130 am. Coroner Dr. J. D. MacGuigan announced the man died of natural causes and that no inquest would be held. Relatives include two brothers in Massachusetts,

Mrs. Leigh Stewart, Summerslde. received word yesterday of the death in the. early hours of the morning of her mother. Mrs. M. E. Purdy, at Little Shemogue, N. B.. at the age of ‘l4 years. She was the former Euphemia Clark of Bede- qua end later of Charlottetown. P. E. I. Her husband has been dead for some years.

She is survived by five daugh- ters: Mrs. Ida Whittingham, Mfr. William Urquhart and Mrs. W. E. Burden all of San Francisco; Mrs. Lorne Crabbe, Charlottetown; and Mrs. Stewart of Summerslde men- tioned above. There is also a half sister, Mrs. Lulu Clark of Char- lottetown.

NEW LOW FOR MARCH After setting a new all-time low for March in this Province of 17 de- grees below zero. the weather mod- erated on Sunday until by 8.30 last night the reading was 22 above at the Charlottetown mperimental Station, Low Saturday night and early Sunday was nine below. At 8.30 Sunday morning it was six be- low. Apparently the cold was more severe in Charlottetown Saturday than in surrounding districts. At the airport it was 11 below. The pre- vious low for March in this Prov- ince, and the records go back to the start of the century. W8! 15 b9- low in March, 1923. There was no wind with Saturday morning's ex- treme cold. The coldest day in March last year was 10 above on March 12.

Ross officiated at the funeral services in Jacques funeral home Tuesday, Jan. 27th. at 4 p. m. for Mrs. Charles (Gertrude Price) Semple, age '10 of 412 Bowrzess Road who died Saturday at her home. Cremation will follow in the Calgary Crematorium. Born in Chelton, P. E. I, on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Earle Pearson. Mrs. Semple moved to Calgary in 1911. She had lived in springbank from 1917 until 1.943 when she went to Bowness. Mrs. semple was a member of the Bow- ness ‘United Church. She is sur- vived by her husband. five sisters, .Mrs. O. A. HOME DESTROYED-The home of Herrell Arblng, Millcove, was destroyed by fire last Saturday afternoon. So rapidly did the blaze spread that Mr. Arbing with the assistance of neighbors, was only‘ able to remove two beds and a quantity oi clothing. Eight hun- dred bushels of potatoes were in the cellar at the time and it is believed many of them would be damaged. Mr. and Mrs. Arblng and their seven children are living with a neighbor for the present. The origin of the tire is unknown.

When the Legislature met yes- terday afternoon Premier Jones stated that since the adjournment last week Hon. Mr. Hughes had resigned as Provincial Secretary- Treasurer and Minister of Health and Welfare, that Hon. A. W, Matheson, M.L.A., had been ap- pointed to the latter portfolio and that he himself had taken lver the portfolio of Provincial Secre- teary-Treasurer. Mr. Frederick S Martin had been appointed Clerk of the House.

She was born in Char- lottetown but came to Moncton with her parents when a young child and has lived practically all her life in Moncton. She was a member oi the congregation of Central United Church. She was an active member of the Child Welfare Association being a char- ter member as well as first vice- presldent. The death occurred at her home in Suffolk on Feb. a6, 1M8 of Mrs. Ambrose Ferguson. whose maiden name was Lena Jena Ferguson. daughter of the lateJamca Pergu- son and Margaret Mackinnon. ShA spent her entire life in Suffolk. she was a~ woman of strong Chris- tian faith and of a kind and love- able disposition. She was a mem- ber of the Marshfleld Presbyterian church and alwaya attended until her health began to fail. She was faithfully and lovingly cared for by her daughter for a. number of years. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Young. The hymns sung were “The Lord’! My Shepherd”, "Abide With Me” and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
