Welfare author- ities are unanimous in warning that we have wasted too much time al- ready. that the problem has reached an acute stage in Charlottetown and that it will undoubtedly get worse. and costlier to remedy, if this oppor- tunity for action is not taken.

Hard To Reconcile

In his budget speech on Mondav. Finance Minister Gordon started off with a glowing account of zovern- ment performance in achieving its economic objectives. Almost 500.- 000 new jobs had been created since the spring of 1963. he said. and un- employment last month was 3.9 per cent ‘of the labor force. compared with 7.7 per cent in the first quarter of 1961. ~
