Aw Evenrye or Music.—There is a possi- bility of Mr. Henry Waller giving our citizens @ rich treat in the Y. M. C. A. Hall on Mon- day evening the 15th inst. His splendid rendition of choice selections on the evening of Mrs. Scott-Siddons recitals captivated the audience and an almost unanimous desire for a repetition was expressed, which has now resulted as above. A few of our most talented vocalists wiil assist in making the evening one long to be remembered.

Tue Crrizens Banp.—The Citizens Band gave their usual Thursday night’s concert on the Square last evening. The playing was better than ever. That it was appreciated is unnecessary to say. Every selection was re- ceived with rounds of applause, and by the special request of some gentlemen present “T ttle Annie Rooney” was played a second time. We understand that there is a collec- tion being raised in aid of the Bend. This is right, the Band having the best of claims on our citizens for their generosity and kindness The collectors, we believe, are meeting with success every where.

An action has just been commenced m the Supreme Court against J. Franklyn Shatferd, of the firm of Shatford Bros., of this city, for damages for libel at the suit of the Brus d’or Steam Navigation Company. The defendant, itis alleged, published a letter in the North Sydney Herald reflect- ing on the accommodation of a certain ship belonging to the said company. Amon- other things he referrcd to the multitude og bugs on the steamer. The plaintiff comf pany claims that the sad letter has been detrimental to their Inlerests, and as a con- sequence seek to recover drimages.

Judge Humphrey. in the District Court of East Norfolk, made a return this after- noon on the inquest held upon the recent Old Colony Railroad disaster at Quincy. He finds that a track jack was the cause of the acsident, and that Joseph F, Welch, section master, was guilty of criminal neg- ! ligence in allowing the jack to be placed on | the track at that time He is guilty of grosser negligence for not ordering its re- | moval before the train was due at that! point. He finds that Michael Hartley placed the jack on the track.
