Cleveland Sees Good Chance For league Pennant

TUCSON. March 23-(AP) - Cleveland Indians are high on their chances of winning the Am- erican League pennant for their new manager. Al Lopez.

They feel that only 3 fluke-four straight losses to St. Louis Browns -deprived them of the flag last year, and they feel they have added sufficient batting punch to fore- stall such a disaster this tkne. They haven't a lefthander on their starting staff. but profess no concern. They'll take umon (Bob). by common consent the best pitcher in the game today. and his-three iellow right-banders -Bob Feller. Mike Garcia and Early Wynn.

Lopez himself says it is a quest- ion of beating out the champion Yankees. He doesn't appeir to stand in awe of Boston Red Sox. The team. after looking like A winner three or four weeks from last season's close. hit the rocks and finally wound up fourth.

The Indians like their new key- stone ccmbination of Ray Boone at short and Roberto Avila at sec- ond.

Avila. from Vera Cruz. Mexico, hit .290 in 80 games as Joe Gord- on's understudy lser, year. Boone hit .301 in 109 games. but between them they hit only eight home runs.
