CLEVELAND, (AP)-Steel de- mand continues strong. though the

fourth quarter may see some changes in consumer pressure, Steel. the metalworking weekly,

said Sunday.

Orders already placed for the third quarter indicate "a period of high steel operations. unless unex- pected cancellstiona develop," the magazine stated. It added:

"Early this year there were pre- dictions that steel demand would decline sufficiently to cut steel pro- duction in the third quarter. As the year progressed. the date of de- cline was moved to the fourth qtiarer. Now, everyone wants to know what really is in store for the last quarter."

Steel said order cancellations re- ceived thus far do not indicate any pattern.

NEW YORK. (AP)-The stock market kept rolling ahead in its recovery movement last week dee- pite several severe handicaps.

The market hit bottom for the year nearly a month ago. For the last three weeks the t.rcnd has been higher. This has encouraged many to hope that July and August will conform to the historic pattern and result in an upward movement.

The daily average of trading last week came to only 577,000 shares, lowest since the third week in May of i949.

Traders were reluctant to take. A position and the public. as well seemed to show no enthusiasm for

trading.

Canadian issues closed out high- er at week's end. Hiram Walker was tip 1-2. International Nickel gained 3-8. Canadian Pacific added 1-4, and Distillers Seagram was up 1-8., On the American stock excha.nge.' Canadian issues were higher. Giant Yellowknife added 1-4.
