THE experivnce of the manufacturers of the ‘Myrtle Navy’ tobace> is a valuable lesson to

itical economy. Previous to their commene- ing that bran’, the tobacco made of the finest Virginia leaf was always held at fancy prices, aod put up in some fancy style of mannfac- ture. It was thought that only the rich would buy such tebaces, and at the old prices none but the rich could buy it. The makers ofthe ‘Myrile Navy’ resolved to strip the manofacture of the tobseco ef all its fancy costs and put their profit at so low a rate that no competitor cou'd possibly uvderseil them with the same quality of article. From th very first until now their rate of profit has i been a uniform percentage upon the cust. It is their enormous sales which make their low rate of profit a satisfactory one in the aggre- gate, and also gives them firm hold upon the market. Their suceess is an excellent lesson for manufacturers to study over.

Obituary.

The obsequies of Ruth Kickham, aged 16, took place in St. Dunstan’s Cathedral, Ou the 2ad ult., at 9o'clock. The body ‘ was brought from the Convent of Notre Dame, where she died, and the Rev. Father Gallant sang the Mass of Requiem and gave the absolutions. In a senso, the deceased wasachild of the Convent, for her home had been there for some years back. Her parents wero well satisfied to leave the fragile health of their child to the nursing of the kind sisters. Tho iittle deceased was a “Child of Mary,” and many of her sister associates in tliat beautiful Suciety were present at the last rites. One of these, of neariy her own age, has twined the following little wreath of verse to the memory of her departed Sister :—

The still white walls of the Convent _Uie deep in shade to-day,

For the Ange! of Death bas come And called dear Kuth away.

But there shines through Death’s dark valley

ght from a star-crowned head, And the Mother of God round Ruth Pretecting arms has spread.

2 She brings her to the throne of God,

; Au offering pure and fair,

And the crown of “ Child of Mary” Gleains through her golden hair.

Now while before the throne of God, In silent, heartfelt prayer,
