Lord Houghton, whose death was an- nounced by the cable on Tuesday, was an earnest promoter of emigration, and em- ployed much of his wealth in sending out deserving characters to the colonies, es- pecially to Canada, of whose resources he always spoke in the terms of boundless admiration. His knowledge of the country was derived from personal investigation.

A gentleman entered a gallery the other day for the purpose of obtaining a cabinet picture of himself. On the 8th of August, at Grand River, Lot 55, trusting in Jesus, Mary Ann Morris a, relict of the late Daniel Murray, in the 47th year of her age, after a painfal illness, which she bore with Christian resignation to the Divine Will, leaving a young family to mourn the less of a kind mother.

A., professor of classics and teacher of German; and with Professors Ra'ler and Kennedy in their former posi- iions, there seems good reason to hope that Kings willses a return of brighter days. The Senate of the University of New Brunswick have appointed Dr. Harrison, President, in the room of Dr. Jack. Dr. Harrison is a graduate of Trinity College, Dablin, where he won high honors. Asa professor in the New Branswick University for fourteen years, he must have acquired an experience which will be of value to him at the head of the faculty. Other changes, it is said, will take place at Fredericten.— Prov. Wesleyan.
